"Speaking with other shark survivors it has been our experience that they too are not in the practice of shark finning. This involves cutting off the shark tail and fins and throwing the rest back into the ocean to die slowly. The shark fins are then sold to vendors who use them to make traditional wedding soup in the Asian culture. Here is a clip by Humane Society which we found informative. For those who wish to watch this CNN clip you will see juvenile shark catch which enables you to develop your own opinions about the practice of shark finning."

Way back in 1979, as my colleague Tony Barboza reported on Sunday, "Bonanza" stars Lorne Greene and Michael Landon donated beach property to the public in the name of Dan Blocker, who played Hoss Cartwright on the show. The deal was that it had to be used as a "public park for recreation purposes." It ended up under L.A. County control in 1997, and the state Coastal Conservancy coughed up a $700,000 grant in 2004 to help get Dan Blocker County Beach up and running."

"After a recent call and interview by Barry Morgan on Canadian Radio station about our shark survival stories we pictured Al Brenneka on his surfboard in Delray Beach 1976 going out to catch the big waves on Thanksgiving Day. The Sharkbait Foundation team understands some things about the "surf culture" because our family has been into it since birth, something Al, Bethaney Hamilton and many shark survivors have in common."

"Starting with body surfing until Uncle Billy heard of surfboards coming out of Hawaii and California back in the 60's. Jacksonville Beach and the pier is where the waves come in and families enjoy learning about ocean skills. Many children of our families had their first experience "jumping the waves",sailing or fishing. Someone always wanted a weekend trip to sail or camp at the river, fish or surf the waves.The ocean has taught us, and we became activists because of this intense inter connection to water and the ocean or sea around the globe!"

"I was really surprised to read about the other body surfer, an 86 year old man who is a WWII veteran who was bitten by a shark his name is Bob Brown. I try to stay on top of these things but my role differs from Al Brenneka who is my friend and organized the shark attack survivors files extensively. He is the one who puts together a plethora of information."

"Al Brennaka stopped by on his way back to North Carolina. Al lost his arm to a lemon shark while surfing in Delray Beach on Thanksgiving Day. He was 17 at the time, he and Rodney Fox's bites were the first to be televised. Al has put together a shark survivors and statistics sight called Shark Attack Survivors.com."

When we began this journey no one really knew what to expect. There has been tremendous heartache in hand with absolute joy.

We know that we are not alone in the quest for clean drinking water for all people. Or for my jag with the emphasis on aquatic safety skills and training.It is a must for our children!

The ocean has taught families how to live off both water and land. May we all continue to do so. The water holds a bond so deep between us that through our oceans we rely upon each other to survive.
